Are the commandments still in force?
What law was abolished on the cross?
John 14.15 If you love me, keep my commandments.
! John 5.2 By this we know that we love the childen of God, when we love God, and keep
his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and His commandments are not grevious
Revelation 22.14 Blessed
are they that do his commandments: that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in throught the gates into the city.
Many
mistakenly believe that the ten commandments were abolished on the cross.
The law of commandments that was abolished on the cross, was 'the law
of commandments contained in ordinances': the Levitical, ceremonial, and social law of Israel; the enmity; the middle wall of partition; that seperated Israel from
the Gentiles.
Ephesians 2.11 Wherefore remember, that you being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
12 That at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who sometimes
were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. 14 For He is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
15 Having abolished in His flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained
in ordinances; for to make in Himself of two one new man, so making peace; 16 And that He might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity
thereby: 17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were near.
Colossians 2.10 And you are complete in Him, which is the head of all principality and power:
11 In whom you are also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: 12 Buried with Him in baptism, wherein you are also risen with Him through the faith
of the opperation of God, who has raised Him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, has He quickened together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses; 14 Blotting out
the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to His cross; 15 And having spoiled principalities and powers,
He made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in it. 16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink,or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
(These
sabbath days, are the days of holy convocation during the feasts of the Lord: they are not the commanded sabbath day.)
Apart from the mention of sabbath days, nothing is mentioned in these scriptures pertaining to any of the ten commandments. The things mentioned; meat, drink, holydays, new moons, (touch not, taste not, handle not); are not
part of the ten commandments, but of the Levitical law.
17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. 18 Let no man begile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping
of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind. 19 And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increases with the increase
of God. 20 Wherefore if you be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are you subject to ordinances, 21(Touch
not; taste not; handle not; 22 Which are all to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men ?
Genesis 26.5 Because that Abraham obeyed My voice, and
kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.
Matthew 5.17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.
(Jesus is here referring to the commandments: as the ordinances were to be abolished on the cross.)
18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no way pass from the law,
till all be fulfilled. 19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, shall be called least
in the kingdom of heaven: and whosoever shall do, and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
21 You have heard that it was said by them of old time,
You shall not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgement: 22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with
his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgement: and whosoever shall say to his brother Raca, shall be in danger of hell fire.
27 You have heard it said by them of old time, You shall not commit adultry: But I say unto you, That whosoever looks on
a woman to lust after her has commited adultry with her in his heart.
Jesus
is here confirming the spirit of the law, and reinforcing the commandments: and then goes on to discredit
the law of commandments contained in ordinances.
Matthew 5.38 You have heard that it has been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: 39 But I
say unto you, That you resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite you on your right cheek, turn to him also the other.
One of the scribes asked Jesus, Which is the first
commandment of all ?
Mark 12.29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: 30 And thou shalt
love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thu mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. 31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
There is none other commandment greater that these.
Matthew 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38
This is the first and great commandment. 39 and the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
If the redeemed obey these two commandments, we will obey all the commandments: for
if we obey the first, we will obey the first four of the ten commandments: if we obey the second, we will obey the other six commandments, and also the new commandment.
John 13.34 A new commandment I give unto you, That you love one another: as I have loved you,
35 By this shall all men know that you are My disciples, if you have
love one to another.
1 John 5.2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep His commandments.
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments: and His commandments are not grevious.
His commandments are a delight to those who Love Him.
John 14.15 If you love Me, keep My commandments.
21 He
that has My commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loves Me: and he that loves Me shall be loved of My Father,
and I will love him, and will manifest Myself to him.
23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love
Me, he will keep My Words: and My Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. 24 He that loves Me not keeps not
My sayings: and the Word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father's which sent Me.
John 15.10 If you keep My commandments, you shall abide in My love;even as I have kept My Father's commandments, and abide in His love.
1Corinthians 7.19 Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.
1John 2.3 And hereby we do know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He that says, I know Him and keeps not His commandments, is a liar and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoso keeps His Word, in him is the love of God prefected: hereby we know that we are in Him.
1John 3.22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of Him, because we keep His commandments, and do those things
that are pleasing in His sight. 23 And this is His commandment, That we should believe
(Gk: pisteuo: to have faith: living faith, which is obedience [see study on 'Faith toward God', in' First Principles']) on the name of His Son
Jesus Christ, and love one another, as He gave us commandment. 24 And he that keeps His commandments dwells in Him. And hereby we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit which He has given us.
2John 4 I rejoice greatly that I found
of your children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father. 5 And now I beseech you,
lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto you, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
6 And this is love, that we walk after His commandments. This is the commandment,
That, as we have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.
Revelation 12.17 And the dragon was
wrath with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Revelation 14.12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God,
and the faith of Jesus.
Revelation 22.14 Blessed are they that do
His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
If we do not obey the Lord, He is not
our Lord.
Levitical law
Hebrews 7.5 And truely they that are of the sons of Levi who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they came out of the loins of abraham:
Hebrews 7.11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, for under it the
people received the law, what further need was there that another priesthood should rise after the order of Melchisedek, and not called after
the order of Aaron ? 12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of neccessity a change also of the law.
15 And it
is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedek there arises another priest, 16 Who is made not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life. 17 For He testifies, You are
a priest forever after the order of Melchisedek. 18 For there is truely a disannuling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.
19 For the law made, nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.
28 For the law makes men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the
oath, which was since the law, makes the Son, Who is consecrated forevermore.
The law (Levitical, ceremonial
and social law of Israel: the commandments contained in ordinances), was abolished on the cross. (Eph.2.14-16 ; Col. 2.14)
The
commandments are in force till all be fulfilled. (Mt. 5.17-19). (According to Jesus.)
Matthew 5.18 For truely I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no way pass from the law till all be fulfilled.
On mount Sinai, God spoke and wrote the ten commandments on tables of stone with His finger: but now He has made a new covenant with the house of Israel; in which He will put His laws into our minds, and write
them in our hearts.
Jeremiah 31.31 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with
the house of Judah 32 But this will be the
covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put My law in their inward parts, and
write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be
My people. 34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know Me, from
the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.
1john2.3 And hereby we do know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments
Hebrews 8.10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days,
saith the Lord; I will put My laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: I will be to them a God,and they shall be to Me a people:
11 And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, know the Lord: for all shall know Me, from the least
to the greatest. 12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. 13 In that He said, A new covenant, He has made the first old. Now that which decays
and waxes old is ready to vanish away.
1Jn.2.4 He that says, I know him, and keeps not his commandments,
is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
If you love
Me, keep My commandments.
The commandments of the Lord, spoken by the mouth of God, and written in stone by the finger of God;
are now being written in the hearts, and put into the minds of the children of God; so that we will remember
them forever.
The commandments will still be in force in the new heavens and the new earth.
Is.65.17
For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come to mind. 18 But be you glad and rejoice for ever
in that which I create: For, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy. 19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.
20 There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that has not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed.
The children which 'the Elect in this life' will have in the
next life, in the new earth are not going to die physically at one hundred years of age, but will reach the age of accountability, come under the commandments, break them, and die spiritually. At one hundred years of age
people will became sinners. (This will not include those elect, who in this life were redeemed from sin, and sanctified; holy, spotless and unblameable; but their children, the seed of the blessed of the Lord, and their offspring.)
Is.65.21 And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. 22 They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and my elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands. 23 They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for
they are the seed of the blessed of the Lord, and their offspring with them.
Children born in the new earth will not be infants of days, but
of years, and will come to the age of accountability when they are an hundred years old. When they reach one hundred, they come under the
commandments; break them, and die; (seperated from the Spirit of God; as we were, when we broke His commandments). (See study on 'Born in sin?').Those who break the commandments; sinners; at one hundred years old, or older, shall be accursed.
That there are sinners in the new earth, attests to the truth that the commandments
will still be in force there;
Until all be fulfilled.
Praise God for His Goodness, that in the new earth, and forever, the precious, one time, redeeming sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ upon the cross of Calvary, is still available unto all.
Jesus Christ is come in the flesh.
The sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ upon the cross of Calvary
is ever present and available unto all who will avail themselves of it, forever. Hallelujah!
Ps.111.10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and a good understanding have all they that do His commandments.
Love God: obey His commandments.
Live forever!
