The first instruction in wisdom to a new Christian is
to fear the Lord.
The Beginning of Wisdom.
Pr.9.10 The fear of the Lord
is the beginning of wisdom:
and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
The fear of the Lord is one of the seven Spirits of God. (Please read on).
Rev.1.4 John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be to you, and peace, from Him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before His throne.
Rev.3.1a And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith He that has the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars;
Rev.4.5 And out of the throne proceeded lightenings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne,
which are the seven Spirits of God.
Rev.5.6 And I beheld, and lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst
of the elders, stood a lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
Jn.14.16 And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees Him not, neither knows Him: but you know Him; for He dwells with you, and
shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
Jn.15.26 But when the
Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father, He shall testify of Me:
Jn.16.13 Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He shall show you things to come. 14 He
shall glorify Me: for He shall receive of Mine, and show it unto you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine: therefore said I, That He shall take of Mine, and shall show it unto you.
Is.11.1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: 2 And the Spirit of the
Lord shall rest upon Him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of
the fear of the Lord; 3 And He shall make Him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord:
The seven Spirits
of God: the Spirit of truth; the Spirit of wisdom; the Spirit of understanding; the Spirit of counsel; the Spirit of might; the Spirit of knowledge;
the Spirit of the fear of the Lord.
Phil.2.12 Wherefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Fear of the Lord; and trembling at His word.
The Lord Himself has said, in Mt.10.28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Lu.12.4 And I say unto you my friends (Jn.15.14 You are my friends, if you do whatsoever I command you.), Be not afraid of them that kill
the body, and after that have no more that they can do. 5 But I will forewarn you whom you shall fear: Fear him which after he
has killed has power to cast into hell: yes, I say unto you, Fear him.
Fear: Gk: phobio: to frighten; from phobos, phebomai:
to be put in fear, alarm or dread.
This fear of the Lord which Jesus teaches to His friends, is fear or dread of Him who has power to cast into hell, and destroy both soul and body: to be afraid of not following the Lord, who
is the Way, the Truth and the Life; but following man's religeous traditions, doctrines and precepts; and ending up in hell.
Many long time "believers" do not understand this fear to be dread or terror, but see it as awe and reverence.
Is.29.13 Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this
people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the presept of men:
This is not to say that we are not to hold the Lord in awe and reverence; it is to say that we are to be afraid of Him casting
us into hell, for not following His Way, the way of Spirit and Truth;
but religeously following man's different and differing and divisive denominational doctrines, having a form of godliness, but ignoring the power of the presence of the ever
present Lord, Who, if we are baptized, lives in us.
All those who do not see salvation as a hope, and have been deceived into believing that they are already saved, will not see these scriptures as pertaining to themselves.
Be aware that Jesus is teaching this fear of the Lord to His
disciples; to His friends.
(see Study on 'How are we saved').
The fear of the Lord is the
beginning of wisdom.
Pr.9.10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
Mt.7.21
Not every one that says unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but they which do the will of my Father
which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name? and in your name have cast out devils? and in your name done many
wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from me, you that work iniquity. 24 Therefore whosoever hears these sayings of mine, and does them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26 And every one that hears these sayings of mine, and does them not, shall be likened unto a foolish
man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the
fall of it.
When we choose the fear of the Lord, our wisdom begins, and we do our best to try to do His will;
knowing that it is only those who do His will that will enter into the kingdom of heaven.
When we fail to do His will, we have the authority and the privelage to come boldly before His throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace
to help in time of need (Heb.4.16).
Praise God. Hallelujah! Thank You Father; God is good! His mercy endures forever; He is longsuffering toward
us, He leads us unto repentance; His mercy is new every morning and endures forever.
The fear of the Lord is something to be chosen.
Pr.1.29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose
the fear of the Lord; 30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. 31 Therefore shall
they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
God will give
more wisdom to those who have chosen to fear the Lord: the
wise, who, through the fear of the Lord, try with honest hearts to obey His word.
Dan.2.20 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever: for wisdom and might are his: 21 And he changes the times
and the seasons: he removes kings: he gives wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding. 22 He reveals the deep and secret things: he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.
Eph.5.21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
Acts9.31 Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; walking in the fear of the Lord,
and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were mulitplied.
Those who would not walk in the way of the Lord; who would not labour to enter into
His rest; those who would not walk in the way of peace; who would not live in the light of His presence, fellowshipping with Him; who would
not dwell in the secret spiritual place of the Most High; had no fear of the Lord.
Ro.3.17
And the way of peace have they not known: 18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.
Pr.2.1 My son, if you will receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; 2 So that you incline your ear unto wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; 3 Yes, if
you cry after knowledge, and lift up your voice for understanding; 4 If you
seek her as silver, and search for her as for hid treasures; 5 Then shall you understand the fear of the Lord,
and find the knowledge of God. 6 For the Lord gives wisdom: out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. (The knowledge of the holy is understanding.
See study on 'Holiness').
1Pet.1.14 As obedient
children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: 15 But as he which has called you is holy, so be you
holy in all manner of behaviour; 16 Because it is written, You be holy; for I am holy.)
Pr.3.7 Be not wise in your own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.
Pr.8.13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.
Pr.10.27 The fear of the Lord prolongs days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
Pr.14.26 In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge. 27 The fear of the Lord
is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
Pr.15.33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom: and before honour is humility.
Pr.16.6 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.
Pr.19.23 The fear of the Lord tendeth to life:
and he that has it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
Pr.22.4 By humility and the fear of the Lord
are riches, and honour, and life.
2Cor.7.1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of the Lord.
Deut.10.12 And now, Israel, what does the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love
him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart
and with all thy soul.
Ecc.12.13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
Rev.14.6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to teach unto them that dwell on
the earth, and to every nation, and kindred and tongue, and people, 7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear
God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgement is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
Rev.11.18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and
the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou should give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and should destroy them
which destroy the earth.
Rev.19.5 And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all you his servants, and you that fear
him, both small and great.
Ps.103.10 He has not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear Him. 12 As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed
our transgressions from us. 13 Like as a father pities his children, so the Lord pities them that fear Him.
Ps.103.17 But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear Him, and his righteousness unto children's children; 18
To such as keep His covenant, and to those that remember His commandments to do them.
Rev 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates
into the city.
The fulfilling of the law and the prophets; the fulfilling of the testemony of the doctrine of Christ is: to love the Lord thy God, with all thy
heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength; to love thy neighbour as thyself; and to love one another as He has loved us. To know the love of Christ passes all knowledge, and is the end of the fear
of the Lord.
Let us fear nothing but God, until our love is perfect.
Perfect Love casts out all fear.
