Mount Sinai in Arabia

Where is Mount Sinai?

Galatians 4.25a For this Hagar is mount Sinai in Arabia.

If we understand that scripture is true, and history, and man's tradition, unreliable; and accept that mount Sinai is in Arabia (as the Word of God says), and not in the Sinai Peninsula; then the journeys of the children of Israel become vivid.

Moses was tending Jethro his father in law's sheep, in Midian, in Arabia, on the backside of the desert in Horeb; when God spoke to him out of the burning bush at mount Sinai.

Exodus 3.1 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.    2 And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush:

Exodus 3.12 And he said, Certainly I will be with you; and this shall be a token unto you, that I have sent you: when you have brought forth the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God upon this mountain.

Mount Sinai is the mountain of God; in Horeb; in Arabia.

Exodus 19.1 In the third month (Sivan), when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day (15th.) came they into the wilderness of Sinai (60 days after leaving Egypt on 15th Nisan/Abib).    2 For they were departed from Rephidim, And were come to the desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.    3 And Moses went up unto God, and the Lord called unto him out of the mountain, saying, thus shall you say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;    4 You have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself.

The Lord God had brought the children of Israel, out of Egypt; and had brought them unto Himself; to the mountain of God; mount Sinai, in Horeb, in Arabia.

Mount Sinai, in Horeb, is in Arabia: according to scripture; and not in the Sinai peninsula, according to the traditions of man.

The children of Israel did not cross the Red sea to get out of Egypt; they came out of Egypt the first night of their exodus; (the evening after the 14th of Nisan is 15th Nisan.)

Exodus 12.29a And it came to pass, that at midnight the Lord smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt,....

Exodus 12.31 And he called for Moses and Aaron by night and said, Rise up and get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; and go, servr the Lord,as ye have said.

Exodus 12.37a And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth,....

Exodus 12.51 And it came to pass the selfsame day, that the Lord did bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their armies.

Exodus 13.17 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Phillistines, although that was near; for God said, peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt:    18 But God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea: and the children of Israel went up harnessed out of the land of Egypt.

God did not lead the people accross the north of the Sinai peninsula to the land of the Philistines; but led them about, through the wilderness of the Red sea.

Numbers 33.5 And the children of Israel removed from Rameses (in Egypt), and pitched in Succoth (out of Egypt). [Succoth; Heb: Cukkoth; Sukkot: booths. The Feast of Booths or Tabernacles, which is held from 15th to 22nd Tishri, celebrates the Children of Israel's departure from Egypt.]

Leviticus 23.42 You shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Isralites born shall dwell in booths:    43 That your generation may know that I made the children of Israel to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.

The children of Israel had not yet crossed the Red sea.

Exodus 13.20 And they took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness (of the Red sea; Ex.13.18).    21 And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them by the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:    22 He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.

The children of Israel made no camp between Etham and Pi-hahiroth.

God was leading them day and night from Etham, on the edge of the wilderness of the Red sea, down through the wilderness of the Red sea; down the west coast of the Sinai peninsula; between the Gulf of Suez, on their right, and the mountains of the Sinai peninsula, on their left; to the southern tip of the peninsula: where they turned.

Exodus 14.1 And the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying,    2 Speak unto the children of Israel, that they turn and encamp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, over against Baal-zephon: before it shall you encamp by the sea.    3 For Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, They are entangled in the land, the wilderness has shut them in.

Numbers 33.7 And they removed from Etham, and turned again unto Pi-hahiroth, which is before Baal-zephon: and they pitched before Migdol

They had reached the southern tip of the Sinai peninsula, and turned north, and up the coast of the Gulf of Aqubah; where they were trapped before the impassable mountains which come right down to the waters of the gulf.

They were trapped, and Pharaoh knew it.

Exodus 14.3 For Pharoah will say of the children of Israel, They are entangled in the land, the wilderness has shut them in.

In this area of south east Sinai, is Pi-hahiroth (Pi-hachiyroth: house or mouth of gorges); Migdol (tower); and Baal-zephon (master of winds).

Pi-hahiroth: Many gorges lead from here up into the mountains of central Sinai:

Migdol: There is a conical hill, which is possibly Migdol; (not to be confused with Migdol in northern Sinai).

Baal-zephon: When the prevailing east wind hits the mouth of the many gorges at Pi-hahiroth and the mountains of southern Sinai, they are dispersed in many directions; up the many gorges, and north, up the Gulf of Aqubah.

These features are unique to the east of the tip of the Sinai Peninsula.

The children of Israel were camped here, when Pharaoh and his army reached the southern tip of Sinai.

Exodus 14.9 But the Egyptains pursued after them, all the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, and his horsemen, and his army, and overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pi-hahiroth, before Baal-zephon.

Exodus 14.13 And Moses said unto the people, Fear you not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will show you today: for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will see them again no more for ever.    15 And the Lord said unto Moses, Wherefore cry you unto Me ? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go foward:    16 But lift you up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry land through the midst of the sea.

Exodus 14.21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.

Between the southern tip of Sinai, and Arabia, is the Gulf of Aqubah, the north eastern arm of the Red sea. Between the Gulf of Aqubah and the Red sea, is a series of shallow reefs, and low lying sand islands; which stretch between Sinai and Arabia. This is where the children of Israel crossed the Red sea.

There is evidence of debris, caught on a sandbar, half way up the Gulf of Aqubah, at Nuweiba, and across the gulf from Nuweiba; washed there by the undertow currents when the waters returned and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh. (chariot wheels and copper artifacts were discovered by Dr. Lennart Moller, author of 'The Exosus case', and archaeoligist Ron Wyatt, and Jim and Penny Caldwell of 'Split Rock Research Foundation'; who have been to Mount Sinai, in Arabia, many times, and have published excellent books and DVDs.

Numbers 33.8 And they departed from before Pi-hahiroth, and passed through the Red sea into the wilderness, and went three day's journey in the wilderness of Etham, and pitched in Marah.

The wilderness of Etham, is called the wilderness of Shur, in Exodus

Exodus 15.22 So Moses brought Israel from the Red sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.    23a And when they came to Marah,

Exodus 15.27 And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water, and three score and ten palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters.

Exodus 16.1 And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came into the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai (mount Sinai), on the fifteenth day of the second month (thirty days) after their departing out of the land of Egypt.

It was in the wilderness of Sin that God started to feed the children of Israel with quail in the evening, and manna in the mornings. (Ex.16.12-).

The book of Numbers records more camps than are recorded in Exodus.

Numbers 33.10 And they removed from Elim and encamped by the Red sea.         11 And they removed from the Red sea, and encamped in the wilderness of Sin.   12 They took their journey out of the wilderness of Sin , and encamped in Dophkah.    13 And they departed from Dophkah, and encamped in Alush.    14 And they removed from Alush, and encamped in Rephidim where was no water for the people to drink.

Compare Exodus 17.1 And all the congregation of the children of Israel journyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the Lord, and pitched in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.

Moses and some of the elders of Israel, went on from Rephidim, to where God stood upon the rock in Horeb. When Moses struck the rock with his rod, waters gushed out of it and flowed down the dry river bed unto Rephidim, where the children of Israel were encamped. Israel did not leave Rephidim to go to the water: they remained in Rephidim, and the water came to them there. Rephidim is adjacent to Horeb, and is the next sandy expanse, down the now dry river from Horeb. Both can be clearly seen on Google Earth. (The Rock in Horeb is at 28degrees43'36.28''N 35degrees14'10.28''E; on Google earth). Moses called this place Massah; a testing and Meribah; Quarrel (Ex17.7).

Exodus 17.5 And the Lord said to Moses (in Rephidim), Go on before the people, and take with you of the elders of Israel; and your rod, wherewith you smote the river, take in your hand, and go.    6 Behold, I will stand before you there upon the rock in Horeb; and you shall smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

Exodus 17.8 Then came Amelek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim. (Probably over the water).

Ex.17.15 And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-nissi:

Rephidim;(Strongs: Rephiydiym; a railing or ballusters. A balistrade.)

The Balistrade is a curved ridge that runs from Rephidim up to mount Horeb.

The rock in Horebis still there.

More than a few photos have been posted at the site, on Google Earth:

(28 43'36.28"N ; 35 14'10.28"E).

[Now, in 2018, on Google Earth, the photos have been removed]

The rock in Horeb is to the north-north-west of mount Horeb (Jabel el Lawz, the highest mountain in Arabia), and mount Sinai (Jabel el Maqla): the wilderness of Sinai is to the east (or on the back side) of these mountains.

(They departed from Rephidim, went north up the river bed; and then east along an established way, and crossed throught the mountains; and then south; to the wilderness of Sinai. [this was the travelled way that Moses would have taken when he came out of Egypt and when he returned to Egypt; and Aaron came this way from Egypt to meet Moses; for he met him at mount Sinai. There was also an inn on this way].

Exodus 4. 19 And the Lord said unto Moses in Midian, Go, return into Egypt: for all the men are dead which sought your life.    20a And Moses took his wife and his sons, and he returned to the land of Egypt:

24 And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the Lord met him, and sought to kill him.

27 And the Lord said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went, and met him in the mount of God, and kissed him.)

Exodus 19.1 In the third month (Sivan), when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day (the 15th. day) came they into the wilderness of Sinai.      (The 15th. day of Sivan is 60 days after the fifteenth of Nisan or Abib, when the children of Israel went out of the land of Egypt. They would have been at Rephidim in Horeb, on the fiftieth (50th) day after that first passover; which is become the day of Pentecost.)

Exodus 19.2 For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.

It seems that Moses went up into the mount Sinai, six times.

(1) Ex.19.3 And Moses went up unto God, and the Lord called unto him out of the mountain, saying, thus shall you say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;    4 You have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and have brought you unto Myself.

Exodus 19.7 And Moses came (down) and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the Lord commanded him.

(2) Ex.19.8 And all the people answered together, and said, All that the Lord has spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the Lord.

Exodus 19.14 And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.

(3) Exodus 19.20 And the Lord came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and the Lord called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.

Exodus 19.25 So Moses went down unto the people, and spoke unto them.

Exodus 24 12 And the Lord said unto Moses, Come up to Me into the mount, and be there: and I will give you tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that you may teach them.

(4) Ex.24.13 And Moses rose up, and his minister Joshua: and went up unto the mount of God.

Exodus 32.15 And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony were in his hand: the tables were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written.

It was at this time that the children of Israel corrupted themselves, and turned aside from God: and Aaron made a golden calf; and built an altar before it. [This altar is still there today; in the wilderness of Sinai, near the bottom of the mountain; and has engravings of Egyptian calf gods upon the rocks of it. Also there is the ancient burial site of the three thousand slain by the sons of Levi (Ex.32.26-28).There are photos of this altar and grave site, at the site on Google Earth. (28 34'52.80"N  35 23'45.90"E).]

{2018: the photos have been taken down}

( Jim and Penny Caldwell have been called by God to reveal this information concerning the location of mount Sinai, to Israel; the children of God.

They can be contacted at SPLIT ROCK RESEARCH FOUNDATION, PO BOX 6586, DIAMONDHEAD, MS 39525.    www.splitrockresearch.org)

It was at this time when the children of Israel were worshiping the golden calf, that Moses broke the two tables .

Exodus 32.19 And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses' anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and broke them beneath the mount.

(5) Exodus 32.31 And Moses returned unto the Lord, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, they have made them gods of gold.

Exodus 33.4 And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned: and no man did put on his ornaments.    5 For the Lord had said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, You are a stiff necked people: I will come down into the midst of you in a moment, and consume you: therefore now put off your ornaments from you, that I may know what to do with you.    6 And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by the mount Horeb.

At this time Moses pitched the Tabernacle.   Two weeks short of one year, after the children of Israel came out of Egypt; and nine months and two weeks after coming to mount Sinai, Moses set up the Tabernacle of the congregation in the wilderness of Sinai.

Exodus 40.2 On the first day of the first month shall you set up the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation.

Exodus 33.7a And Moses took the tabernacle  and pitched it without the camp, afar off from the camp, and called it the tabernacle of the congregation.

Exodus 34.1 And the Lord said unto Moses, Hew you two tables of stone like unto the first: and I will write upon these tables the words that were on the first tables, which you broke.

 (6) Exodus 34.4 And he hewed two tables of stone like unto the first; and Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up into mount Sinai, as the Lord had commanded him, and took in his hand the two tables of stone.

Exodus 34.28 And he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; and he did neither eat bread, nor drink water. And He wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.    29 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses knew not that the skin of his face shone while He talked with him.

The children of Israel were in the wilderness of Sinai for eleven months and six days.

Exodus 19.1 In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wildernss of Sinai.

Numbers 10.11 And it came to pass on the twentieth day of the second month, of the second year, that the cloud was taken up from off the tabernacle of the testimony.    12 And the children of Israel took their journeys out of the wilderness of Sinai; and the cloud rested in the wilderness of Paran.

The mountain of God is presently cut off from outsiders by a high security fence topped with barbed wire; and a guard post. These can be seen on Google Earth. Also the altar of sacrifice that Moses set up (Ex.24.4) (Google: 28 35'03.67"N 35 22'43.76'E) in the wilderness of Sinai, and the golden calf altar (28 34'52.86"N 35 23'45.98"E) can be seen. Mount Sinai (28 35'45.20"N 35 19'55.59"E) is a black mountain, surrounded by brown mountains.

  Check out the scriptures.

Go to: www.splitrockresearch.org

and check it out on Google Earth: Go to Jabal al-Lawz; Saudi Arabia:( Mt.Horeb.) Mount Sinai is the big black mountain just to the south; and the rock in Horeb is just to the north west by west of Mt.Horeb.)

You'll be blessed.

Mount Sinai is in Arabia, where the bible says it is. (Gal.4.25a)

This study contains my understanding of the way that the children of Israel went from Egypt to mount Sinai. However; the testimony of Dr.Lennart Mollar, of Ron Wyatt, and of Jim and Penny Caldwell; all of whom have been to Nuweiba and to mount Sinai, is that the crossing place of the Red Sea is at Nuweiba. This is also testified to by two columns supposedly erected by King Solomon. So I should bow to this whelming evidence.

However, from the description of the journey of the children of Israel from Succoth, down the wilderness of the Red Sea, and the turn to Pi-hahiroth, Migdol, and Baal-Ziphon; the sand bars and sand islands accross the strait between the southern tip of Sinai Peninsula and Arabia; and that after the crossing of the Red Sea, they went out into the wilderness of Shur for three days and encamped at Marah, then Elim, they then camped by the Red Sea, and then out into the  the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elam and Sinai, then on to Dophkah and Alush before reaching Rephidim and mount Sinai in Horeb; all this has me wondering still.

These wonderful revelations from the Lord of where mount Sinai really is, are an indication of how the denominations have been deceived by following man's traditions, rather than God's word.
